RISE: Resilience, Intervention, Support & Empowerment
Early intervention and crisis prevention – GET support before life reaches crisis point
Life can become difficult for many reasons. You may be experiencing low mood, feeling isolated or overwhelmed, coping with bereavement or significant change, facing housing or financial difficulties, or noticing that your mental health and ability to manage everyday life are beginning to deteriorate.
RISE provides short-term, one-to-one support to help you understand what is affecting your mental health and wellbeing, regain stability and control, and take practical steps forward. We listen without judgement, focus on what matters most to you and help you build the confidence, skills and resilience to manage difficult circumstances.
Within RISE, crisis means reaching a point where difficult circumstances have overwhelmed your ability to cope. Our aim is to support you earlier – before problems escalate and more intensive help may be needed. RISE is currently available to adults living in specific funded areas; contact our team to find out whether the service is available where you live.

Support might include:
We will not simply take over or make decisions for you. We will work alongside you so that you can make changes for yourself and continue using what you have learned after our support ends.
Your support will begin with an initial conversation to understand what is happening, what matters most to you and whether RISE is the right service for your needs.
If we can help, you will receive one-to-one support for up to eight weeks, generally by telephone. You and your RISE coach will agree what you want to work towards, with manageable actions between sessions to help you make progress at your own pace. We will consider other suitable arrangements where telephone support creates a barrier.
At the end, we will review what has changed and help you create a personal toolkit or support map, bringing together the techniques, services, community connections and practical steps you have found most useful.

Where appropriate, the RISE team may also connect you with one of our trained volunteers.
Sometimes a regular conversation with someone friendly can make a real difference. A Check & Chat volunteer can telephone you once a week for a short, agreed period, offering conversation, encouragement and connection while you are going through a difficult or isolating time.
If you have lost confidence in getting out, meeting people or reconnecting with your community, a Trusted Friend volunteer may be able to help you take those first steps.
For a short, agreed period, they might accompany you on a walk, go with you when you attend a local group or activity for the first time, or offer encouragement as you begin getting out and feeling connected again.
Trusted Friend is short-term volunteer support and does not replace ongoing or paid care and support services.

RISE supports adults experiencing low mood or whose circumstances are affecting their mental health, emotional wellbeing, confidence, independence or ability to manage everyday life. You can refer yourself, or a professional can make a referral on your behalf.
The service is currently only available within particular funded areas and will not be suitable for everyone. It may not be the right service if you:
If you are unsure, please contact us. We will listen to what is happening, explain whether RISE can support you and, where possible, help you identify a more appropriate source of help.

RISE is Care Network Cambridgeshire’s early-intervention and crisis-prevention service.
Through timely, practical intervention, RISE supports people experiencing low mood or deteriorating mental and emotional wellbeing who may not need – or may no longer need – specialist statutory mental health services. It may also help people maintain progress after specialist support has ended by reinforcing what they have learned and connecting them with community resources.
By providing earlier support, RISE aims to reduce the risk of people reaching the point where more intensive or statutory intervention is needed. Professionals can make a referral on someone’s behalf, and eligible health and social care professionals may be able to refer through the Joy platform.
RISE is not an emergency service. RISE provides early-intervention and preventative support. It cannot provide an urgent response during an immediate mental health crisis.
Please seek help from the appropriate emergency service from the contact details below if you or someone you know is in an emergency situation.
How we make a difference
Our entire family extends our thanks for all you have done.
And I was ready to give up really as I missed my wife so much. Thank you for the lovely service you provide. I don’t like to go out, so it was nice to talk to someone.
It was great to get all that info sent to us. We are working our way through it. Mum has had contact with a social worker and we have sorted some groups for her to go to.
Everyone is so busy these days. I got just what I asked for and more. It was great and I think I’m doing as well as can be.
We are so looking forward to trying some out and certainly we feel less ‘loaded’ and happier that there are safe ways for helping us to socialise.
I’m so grateful for the Community Car Scheme. Having a friendly volunteer pick me up, help me get in and out of the car, and make sure I arrive safely takes away so much stress, it’s an outstanding local service.
