We are so looking forward to trying some out and certainly we feel less ‘loaded’ and happier that there are safe ways for helping us to socialise.
Help at home
Free practical and emotional support to help you stay independent at home.
Our friendly staff and trained volunteers provide short-term support following a hospital stay or difficult period at home – helping you recover, rebuild confidence and manage everyday life safely and independently.
Sometimes a little extra help can make all the difference to staying safe, confident and independent at home.
Help at Home supports adults across Cambridgeshire who are returning home from hospital or facing a difficult period at home. Our friendly staff and trained volunteers provide practical and emotional support to help you recover, rebuild confidence and manage everyday life.
Our support can help you return home from hospital safely and sooner, reduce the risk of an unnecessary hospital admission or re-admission, and help you remain independent at home and connected to your community.
Help at Home is about supporting you to get back on your feet, rather than taking over.
We work alongside you to help rebuild confidence, maintain independence and reconnect with the people, services and activities around you. Where appropriate, we can also help identify other local services or community support that may benefit you.
If you need further support after your initial period with us, our team can discuss what may be available and the most appropriate next steps.
Help at Home is available to adults who have recently left hospital or who are experiencing a difficult period at home and would benefit from some additional or practical support.
You can contact us yourself, or a referral can be made by a family member, hospital or community-based health professional, social care professional or another organisation supporting you. For referrals, please visit our Contact Us page.
If you’re unsure whether Help at Home is right for you or someone you know, please get in touch. Our team will listen, talk through the situation and help you understand what support may be available.
How our Staff and Volunteers can help
Everyone’s circumstances are different, so the support we provide is based around what you need to help you manage safely and confidently at home. Our staff and volunteers may be able to help with:
Sometimes it’s the smaller things that make the biggest difference. Having someone there to help with an essential shop, collect a prescription, sort out an appointment or simply have a chat can help make life at home feel more manageable.
How we make a difference
We are so looking forward to trying some out and certainly we feel less ‘loaded’ and happier that there are safe ways for helping us to socialise.
It was great to get all that info sent to us. We are working our way through it. Mum has had contact with a social worker and we have sorted some groups for her to go to.
Everyone is so busy these days. I got just what I asked for and more. It was great and I think I’m doing as well as can be.
And I was ready to give up really as I missed my wife so much. Thank you for the lovely service you provide. I don’t like to go out, so it was nice to talk to someone.
Our entire family extends our thanks for all you have done.
I’m so grateful for the Community Car Scheme. Having a friendly volunteer pick me up, help me get in and out of the car, and make sure I arrive safely takes away so much stress, it’s an outstanding local service.
