Celebration of Community at Northstowe Running Festival

September 9, 2022 by careadmin

We were thrilled to be chosen as one of Northstowe Running Festival’s charity partners this year. “So much more than a running event”, Northstowe Western Playing Fields were transformed by local volunteers, under the leadership of founder Marcin Lis, into a vibrant new festival ground last weekend. Over the last 6 weeks our #RunForCareNetwork team have been dedicated in their training and fundraising on behalf of our Wellbeing services. Thanks to their incredible efforts, and those of our stall volunteers over the weekend, we attracted donations of over £2,000 which will help us reach ever more people with our tailored, person-centred support. If you’d like to donate to support our work, please visit our www.care-network.org.uk/funding-and-donations page for easy WebApp and Text options.

July 2022

July 25, 2022 by careadmin

In an exciting month we have published our latest Volunteer Newsletter  – click on the heading July 2022 to access this – and find out about our being awarded Caring Together’s Carer Friendly Tick Award (Employers), in recognition of our  work to identify and support carers.

The award was decided by a panel of carers who assessed the submission on behalf of Caring Together. Caring Together supports people caring for family members or friends across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk.

Care Network, is supported by a team of volunteers working across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Their roles range from helping people settle back at home safely after a hospital stay, to offering Check and Chat support to people at risk of loneliness, isolation, and low mood.

Susie Willis, Chief Executive Officer at Care Network Cambridgeshire said, “At Care Network Cambridgeshire we recognise the vital contribution carers make to support individuals, families, and wider society.

“We have a passionate and diverse team, many of whom have caring responsibilities outside of work. We applied for the Carer Friendly Tick accreditation both to demonstrate our commitment to them but also to celebrate our people.”

The panel of carers who assessed the submission were impressed by the range of work being done to identify and support staff who are caring for a family member or friend.

The work includes:

  • Open and honest conversations as part of staff induction and supervision, supported by “carer-friendly” policies
  • Holding carer awareness training sessions for all staff, with special focus given for line manager training
  • Work with carers to develop a new carer statement.

Jill Nooj, carer awareness and voice coordinator at Caring Together, said “As one of our partner organisations, it has been a real pleasure to help Care Network Cambridgeshire develop ways in which they can identify and support carers who are part of their staff.

“We are delighted that their passion and commitment to supporting employees who are looking after family members or friends has now been recognised with our Carer Friendly Tick Award – Employer.”

“We know that when employers offer the right support it has such a positive impact on staff members who are juggling work and caring responsibilities.”
