Mrs S had been referred to Care Network by her GP. She suffered from severe back pain and although mobile with a walker around the house, she was very restricted as she was not allowed to lift heavy items, including the shopping.
The surgery was also under the opinion that she should not go to appointments or go to any other unaccompanied activities to avoid a fall or more damage to her back. Mrs S lived alone but had carers come in daily to care for her.
A Help at Home volunteer was assigned to assist with shopping, emptying the cat litter tray (she could not bend) and helped moving items around and accompanying her to appointments. The client received physiotherapy and improved weekly and eventually was able to function independently without the assistance of a volunteer.
